It was fun! And the best part? Fond remembrances of Haiti and Carnival/Mardi Gras gone by.
I love hearing their little stories and how those stories begin and end, ebb and flow, with their birth mothers.
Not to be left out, Jeremiah always chimes in, " 'member when I was in Haiti? 'Member my Haitian mama loved Mardi Gras?"
I grab his little face, get down at his level and lovingly remind, "No, my handsome son, your story begins here. You have always been American. I do remember your birth mama, tell me something about her." He beams as he finds his voice to tell me little made up stories about a mother he is forgetting.
I look at them, the three of them and never could have imagined they would be mine. I never pictured a future full of brown skinned beauties and family friendly Mardi Gras celebrations and stories of women I never knew but women who gave me my greatest gift in this life.
In this moment, I am happy my life took this bend in the road, for it is far better than anything I could have ever planned. And it is so much more than I could have ever hoped for.
